Our client is a privately owned renewable energy business with an impressive UK and international client base. With a track record of partnering their customers with a winning combination of expertise and innovation, they are on a rapid scaling and value creation journey and are now looking to add to their leadership team with the addition of a new Finance Director. This is a Board role but also will be very much hands-on. It is a multi-aspect role, supporting the MD, leading the financing strategy of the business, driving the strategic agenda and transforming the finance function and the processes, systems and business intelligence to engender and support profitable growth.

Scaling is planned on a largely organic basis although there may also be some M&A activity. The Finance Director should be comfortable in and have gained previous experience at the heart of an evolving and expanding operation and possess real financial leadership, able to communicate and inspire across functions and at different levels and deliver audience appropriate financial insight/analysis.

Key responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Overview and ownership of reporting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, risk management and performance improvement;
  • Hands on in scenario modelling and KPI analysis;
  • Partnering with the MD to drive a value-add and accountable culture focused on delivering the strategic plan;
  • Working closely with the MD to originate, structure and execute funding of the business across all its activity, from normal working capital to specific project opportunities and acquisitions
  • Fully involved in relationship with key stakeholders and investors;
  • Responsible for Treasury function of the Group, including consolidated cash management


Likely candidates will be team oriented, adaptable, and able to challenge established process in a constructive way. They will have a results focused, business-first mindset and a real focus on a value creation agenda. They will be a Qualified Accountant (preferably FCA, ACCA, or equivalent) ideally with previous financial leadership experience in an SME. They will have been on a previous scaling journey involving transformational change, ideally in a renewables/ manufacturing environment and some exposure to fundraising will be useful. Previous exposure to international transactions is essential as the business trades in multiple jurisdictions and is multi-currency.
