Head of Finance

Salary: c. £70k + car allowance + bonus

Our client is a fast-growing entrepreneurial B2B group, experts and key partners to the North West’s heating and electrical sector and operating over a number of sites. Very well-funded, with a new strategic investor recently coming on board, the committed and passionate leadership team are spearheading future growth. In view of the increased scale and complexity they are now looking for an experienced Head of Finance to establish and grow a best-in-class finance team. Based at the Head Office in Birkenhead you will be required to bring the accounts function in house, utilise the existing ERP system and support board meetings (and the ambitions for further growth) by developing insightful MIS and providing a high level of general commercial support.

Main duties:

  • Creation of an accounts department to provide the board with an effective control environment, regular and accurate reporting, and insights into performance
  • Timely preparation of accurate monthly management accounts for all group companies and consolidated group accounts
  • Preparation of an annual financial budget
  • Daily cash flow forecasting
  • Regular reforecasting with analysis and insight into reasons for variance from budget/plan
  • Input into the group strategic planning process
  • Management of the annual audit process, including preparation of all working papers for the year-end statutory accounts and tax computations
  • Management of the group’s IT systems, including responsibility for disaster recovery and cyber security

Skills and experience:

  • You will be a qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA or ACA)
  • Experience of working at a senior level and providing successful financial leadership and management
  • Competence in all key areas of finance and accounting processes and in successfully running a finance function
  • Experience of working at board level
  • Demonstrable experience and skill in engaging and working collaboratively at all levels, strong self-starter
  • Experience of building financial awareness and understanding with budget holders
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to motivate, inspire and enthuse financial and non-financial stakeholders
