Our client is a Private Equity owned, highly profitable, market leading Retail business that has experienced significant growth in recent years. Due to restructure across the Finance team they are now seeking an experienced Financial Controller to work closely with and report directly to Chief Financial Officer and act as the number one lead across the Finance team on a day-to-day basis. Longer-term, this role will equip the successful candidate with the necessary skills to progress to Finance Director level.

The core focus of the new Financial Controller will be to ensure that all financial aspects of the business are managed efficiently and accurately and to provide operational financial support and advice to the rest of the business. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Full responsibility for the daily running of the Finance department
  • Detailed daily, weekly and monthly cash flow forecasting and planning
  • Assisting the CFO with quarterly covenant compliance reporting and forecasting
  • Preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts and reports for operational management
  • Delivery of timely and relevant financial information to the Board for review to help drive the company’s strategic plan
  • Preparation of budgets, forecasts and business plans and continued monitoring and review of performance across the organisation to enable variance reporting
  • Reviewing monthly processing of payroll and review of quarterly VAT returns
  • Effectively manage, motivate and develop the Finance team
  • Ownership of the operational relationship with the company’s bankers
  • Work closely with other departments to help guide their budget strategy and annual goals and objectives

Ideal applicants will be full qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, etc) with a proven track record of working as a Financial Controller in a complex, fast-paced, multi-site retail business. This will include a demonstrable ability to have full day-to-day responsibility of the finance department whilst also working closely with other departments and senior management. Ideally applicants will have previous experience of working within a leveraged, private equity backed business, although this is not a pre-requisite. It is expected that the new Financial Controller will have a commercial and strategic approach and a heightened business awareness, and the ability to work effectively with key stakeholders both internally and externally. A thorough knowledge of Offices programs is expected including advanced Excel skills, and ideally some experience of Microsoft Dynamics (Navision).
